Veteran actor and filmmaker, Yemi Ayebo, aka Yemi My Lover, has declared that he is broke.
He says it is the reason he is no more active in the movie industry.
Ayebo came was a hot face on the scene in the early 1990s when he produced the love songs and dance-saturated ‘Yemi my Lover’.
In an interview with LilGaga, however, he says he did not make any profit from the film due to piracy assault and a conspiracy by marketers.
He says, “I wrote and produced the movie in the 1990s. The movie cut across Nigeria, especially in the Yoruba-speaking part of the country. But I didn’t make money from it because 90% of the money was made by piracy.
“I didn’t make a profit from the film because there was no social media, so I didn’t have the opportunity to promote it widely. As a result of this, the movie was pirated, and the marketers waged war against me for handling the marketing myself. It was distributed illegally, and people made a profit from it.
