Abubakar Mayos, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa State, has been promoted for his exceptional honesty after returning a lost bag filled with foreign currency.

The NSCDC State Commandant, Idris Bande, announced the promotion at a press briefing in Yola on Wednesday.

The bag, which belonged to Maimuna Salihu, a Hajj pilgrim from Taraba State, was found at the Yola International Airport. It contained $500 and 300 Saudi Riyals, with an estimated value of ₦850,000.

In recognition of the act, the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi, approved Mayos’ promotion from Corps Assistant II to Corps Assistant I, praising him as a model of integrity and professionalism.

The commandant noted that Mayos’ action had earned him the admiration of colleagues and members of the public, while promoting the image of the corps.

“Today, we recognise Abubakar Mayos not only for his achievements but how he earned trust and respect of everyone and projected a good image of the corps.

“In a world where shortcuts are tempting and appearances can be deceptive, Mayos demonstrated principle, steadfastness, transparency, and sincerity.

“Honesty is not just about telling the truth, it is also about living it and making the right choices even when no one is watching.

“It is also about having the courage to speak up, the integrity to act fairly, and the humility to admit mistakes as well,” Bande said.

The commandant further acknowledged the role of the commandant general or the corps, whom he said had consistently encouraged integrity and ethical conduct from the corps personnel.

”By recognising and rewarding honesty, the commandant general has reaffirmed that doing the right thing pays.

”His leadership continues to inspire a sense of duty and responsibility within our ranks.” he added.
