A 40-year-old butcher, Bashiru Gboyega, was on Monday brought before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly defrauding a cattle dealer of five cows worth N3.7 million.
The police charged Gboyega with fraud and theft.
According to the prosecution counsel, PC Olapeju Durodola, the incident occurred on Dec. 22, 2024, around 3:30 p.m. at Kara Market, where Gboyega allegedly received five cows from Tijani Jamare under the pretext of selling them on his behalf but failed to remit the proceeds.
She alleged that the defendant sold the cows but failed to remit the money to Jamare.
Durodola said the offence is punishable under Section 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi , admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N750, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogunkanmi said one of the sureties must be a relation of the defendant .
She adjourned the matter untill Aug. 7, for hearing.
