Many writers and other stakeholders in the literary industry will gather at Magodo, Lagos, on Saturday, May 17 as the Lagos Literary Society (LLS) holds a special programme.
While the LLS will honour some writers who have distinguished themselves in the art, it will also install erudite scholar and prolific writer, Professor Timothy Asobele, as its new president.
A statement shared by the society’s Secretary, Dr Tayo Ogunlewe, indicates that those to be honoured are Dr Udu Yakubu, the late Professor Solomon Iguanre, Professor Olusegun Osayomi, the late Dr Bode Osanyin, Emeritus Professor FBO Akporobaro , Professor Asobele and performance poet, Akeem Lasisi.
The programme will hold at Akporobaro’s residence, which is 23 Environmental Crescent, University of Lagos Estate, Isheri-Magodo Phase 1.
It will start by 11 am.
The statement reads: The programme will be to commend and honour the following persons for their extraordinary and excellent literary works over the years.
1. Dr Udu Yakubu for his four volumes of “100 Women of Value” and 12 excellent biographies of eminent Nigerian men and women. He is currently Nigeria’s leading literary biographer.
2. Professor Timothy Asobele for his over fifty literary and social-cultural books and particularly his historical drama entitled Three Unending Transition Plays.
3. The late Professor Solomon Iguanre for his dramatic productions and development of his theater of laugh-o-mania ( and his works titled Obedeko and Sculptorico.
4. Professor Olusegun Osayomi for his ten excellent biography works.
5. Mr Akeem Lasisi for his very fine poetry volumes one of which is titled Iremoje, Poems in honour of Ken Saro Wiwa and his Yoruba bridal song: Night of my flight.
6. The late Dr Bode Osayin for his literary activism as a writer for over 20 years .
7. Emeritus Professor FBO Akporobaro for his 40 plus literary books, particularly African Oral literature, Contemporary African literature: A canonical anthology of great and new African writers from East, West and black Africa, Introduction to drama, theater and film studies: from the Greeks to the present, and The life and times of Shokolokobangoshey and his friends: Aripropropro and Aripreprepre.
During this meeting of the Society, Distinguished Professor Timothy Asobele will be installed as the President of the Society for the period May 2025 to May 2026.

This dinner will take place at the residence of the Chairman of the Lagos Literary Society, Emeritus Professor FBO Akporobaro at 23 Environmental Crescent, University of Lagos Estate, Isheri-Magodo Phase 1 on May 17th, 2025.
At this LSS meeting, the amazing works of each of these remarkable authors will be reviewed, publisied and shared while literary prizes will be given.
The event will be hosted by Princeton Educational Publishers in partnership with the Lagos Literary Society and the African Cultural Institute.
