A top and vocal Nigerian Liverpool fan, Bamidele Johnson, has revisited the Sadio Mane issue as Egyptian winger, Mo Salah, signs a super new deal with the club.
Salah’s new gold is the two-year contract worth £375,000 per week, with the player’s form so compelling that they don’t mind he is over 30.
He is currently the club’s third top scorer in the club’s history with 243 goals in 394 appearances, having overtaken Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson this campaign.
The new deal has sparked excitement among Liverpool’s fans.
Commenting on it in a Facebook post, Johnson, who is also a media executive, argues that Salah’s triumph has shown that although Mane remains a Liverpool legend, the Egyptian counterpart has proved more durable than him.
He writes: “Mohamed Salah has finally signed a new deal with Liverpool.
“Those angry that Mane was sold, thought Salah wasn’t up to his level and blamed Liverpool’s underwhelming season solely on Mane’s exit have been poked in the eye for their bad verses. Patrick Omorodion, you were one of them. Salah has proved more durable than Mane who, sadly, bombed at Bayern, uncharacteristically got into fisticuffs with a teammate and was turfed out after one season into the searing heat of Saudi Arabia. He will always be a Liverpool legend, but those yammering back then can see they were talking tosh, including saying he was grossly underpaid even when his agent said the opposite.”
“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.
“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
