Residents of Yovoyan community in Badagry, Lagos, are still in shock following the sudden death of four people in the hands of a retired police officer, Charles Atideka.
Adeka was said to have shot three of the victims while he later poisoned self by drinking a substance.
While the incident was said to be linked to a long-standing land dispute, the tragedy occurred at about 2am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
The victims identified as Richard Atideka and Latevi Atideka, both from the Yovoyan community and Muji Onilude from the neighbouring Gberefu community, were allegedly sh0t d3ad by the ex-police officer and an accomplice.
‘The Punch’ reports that Spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday said the perpetrator went ahead to take his own life after allegedly committing the act.
According to Hundeyin, the ex-police officer allegedly took a poisonous substance, became unconscious and was later rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed d3ad.
“The man who is the suspect in the incident is dead. He k!lled three people and allegedly took poison after committing the act. He was thereafter rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed him d3ad. His corpse and those of whom he killed have been deposited in the morgue.”
The PPRO added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
