Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has again asserted the prophet in him.
An unapologetic prophet for that matter.
He declared that a time would come when the church’s Governing Council would hold its meetings on the moon.
While various reactions have greeted the declaration, Phenomenal.com.ng is inspired by the literariness of the statement, which does not in any way affect its prophetic reality as the cleric maintains.
Particularly, the literary-minded could easily smell three figures of speech in holding a meeting on the moon.
Firstly, the proximity of ‘meeting’ and ‘moon’ exemplifies alliteration, which is the ‘the use of the same sound or sounds, especially consonants, at the beginning of words that are close together.
Secondly, the statement can pass for a metaphor, a device in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.
In a metaphor, you compare by saying the two things being compared are the same. It is unlike simile that exploits ‘as’ and ‘like’ to compare.
In other words, a literary freak may see Adeboye’s journey into the moon as a spiritual and even a physical elevation to a place as glorious as the moon.
Thirdly, the expression can be linked to hyperbole: a way of speaking or writing that makes someone or something sound much bigger, better, smaller, worse, more unusual, etc., than they are, according to Cambridge Dictionary.
Beyond this literary adventure, however, Pastor Adeboye, who made the statement during a recent church programme, attributed the revelation to a divine message from God.
He firmly believes the prophecy will come to pass, saying, “I know with God all things are possible. He told me a time will come when the RCCG Governing Council will hold its meetings on the moon. It may not make sense, but that’s God. You don’t have to believe it—but it will come to pass.”
Understandably, the statement has since drawn varied reactions among followers and observers, with some viewing it as a testament to faith and others questioning the feasibility of such a scenario.
