As afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, aka Davido, releases his fifth studio album titled, ‘5ive’, his less acclaimed colleague, Dammy Krane, has done the same, with his album bearing the same title.
It is in fulfilment of an earlier threat by Krane, who has been in a protracted collaboration-gone messy dispute with Davido.
Taking to his X account, the singer announced the arrival of the EP with a bold statement: “It is over for the OPPS, 5IVE by DAMMY KRANE out now,” he wrote, accompanying the post with a video featuring a sound clip from Davido.
Observers will be keen to see what plays out for both based on the unprecedented rivalry gone too far.
Meanwhile, as part of prelude to the release of ‘5ive’, Davido, who had done bigger and wider promos, had previously dropped three singles, ‘Be There Still’, ‘Funds’, featuring Odumodublvck and Chike and ‘Awuke’ featuring YG Marley.
His “5ive” album is calculated to have accumulated over 45 million streams, significantly before its official release date. This includes streams from the lead singles, “Awuke” and “Fund,” released during the 2024 Detty December period. These songs, along with the album, were promoted through live performances and streaming platforms.
The 17-track project includes features from artistes like Chris Brown, Omah Lay, Victony, Becky G, Shensea amongst others.
In one of the previously released track titled ‘Funds’, Davido gives his signature energy on the track while Odumodublvck’s gritty verses complements Chile’s smooth melodies.
‘Titanium’ which features Chris Brown, speaks about a lover who tries to break them down emotionally, as ‘Offa Me’ featuring Victoria Monet speaks want his lover in a sexual way while ‘Nuttin Dey’ boasts of his confidence and longevity.
‘5ive’ arrives two years after his last studio album titled ‘Timeless’ which reached number on Billboard’s World Albums Chart.
