The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale University of Ibadan, has commended the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for holding the 3rd Biennial Conference and Fellowship Induction/Awards ceremony of the Nigerian Academy of Church History and Missiology (NACHAM) at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan.
The commendation was given on his behalf by the Dean of Students, Prof. Keye Abiona, while receiving a team from the Christian Association of Nigeria during a courtesy visit.
The team was led by Professor Samson Fatokun of the Department of Religious Studies, who is also the General Secretary of CAN.
Professor Abiona said the University of Ibadan pursues its Vision and Mission statements passionately to enable the University to become a world-class institution that produces graduates who are worthy in character and sound judgement.
The Dean of Students noted that one of the challenges facing federal universities is funding, and stressed the need for universities to develop sustainable funding regimes through NGOs, alumni, corporate organisations, and friends of the universities.
Professor Abiona, therefore, requested that CAN should raise the voice of prayers for God’s intervention in the education sector and the country at large.
The President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Arch. Bishop Daniel C. Okoh said he was happy to be at the premier university proudly called the University of Ibadan.
He said the courtesy visit was part of the activities lined up for the 3rd Biennial conference and fellowship induction/awards ceremony of NACHAM and to pray for the university and the management.
He commended the Management, academic, and non-teaching staff of the University of Ibadan for upholding the standards of UI and ensuring that the light of academic excellence does not go off in Nigeria and the continent of Africa.
He lamented that many Nigerians in the education system have left the country for greener pastures, leaving the country brain- drained. He, therefore, appreciated those who remained for their vision, love, and passion for Nigeria.
He assured that CAN will form part of the team of ambassadors of the University of Ibadan that seeks its advancement.
The CAN team then raised prayers for the University Management, staff and students, and the country at large.
