As the Ogun State Police Command confirms that a 24-year-old man identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, has allegedly committed suicide , it said a sum of N2,000 was found in his pocket.

The victim allegedly hanged himself on a tree on Friday in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

“Upon investigation, photographs were taken, revealing no signs of violence on the body. Personal items found in the deceased’s pockets included a payment card, a key holder, an earbud, and N2,000,” said  the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Omolola Odutola.

Odutola explained  that the Divisional Police Officer reported the suspected su!cide around 8:27 am after an employee at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese alerted authorities upon finding the lifeless body along Dangote-Afami Road.

“On October 18, 2024, at approximately 08:27 am, the Divisional Police Officer reported a suspected suicide incident. An Assistant at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed the Dangote Police Post that he discovered a lifeless body around 8:10 am,”  the PPRO stated.

“The deceased, later identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, a 24-year-old from Abeokuta, was found hanging from a tree along Dangote-Afami Road. The duty officer at the police post promptly alerted law enforcement, and a team was dispatched to the scene.

The police have since released the body to the family for burial.

Odutola urged families to pay close attention to loved ones who may be exhibiting concerning behaviour, especially amid rising incidents of suicides.

“Further updates will be provided, and in the meantime, please remain calm and vigilant. “Police urged families to monitor their loved ones amid rising youth suicides,” Odutola added.
