Publisher of Phenomenal.com.ng, Mr Akeem Lasisi, has enjoined members of the National Youths Corps Service to take advantage of opportunities offered by digital media.
He urged them to explore reporting, blogging and other related media.
He, however, urged them to develop skills for operating in the space so that they can be as professional as possible.
Lasisi did this recently when he held a masterclass with corps members serving at Great Value Classic Schools, Ibafo, Ogun State.
He particularly gave them insights on news writing and how the corps members can meticulously incorporate it into their respective fields.
Congratulating them on the just-approved increase in their allowance, he commended them for their selfless service, and the fact that their service year is coming to an end in the coming months.
He, however stressed that the media knowledge would generally boost their chances in the labour market.
While noting that a reporter should indicate the who, where, when, how and why of a story, he highlighted the importance of facts, crafting catchy and attention-grabbing headlines, balancing views, avoiding libel, and making use of the proper choice of words and language in reporting.
The corps members thanked Lasisi for the masterclass, with one of them, Funmi Ipaye, saying, it was thought-provoking and timely.
Ipaye noted, “I enjoyed every bit of it. It was an eye opener for me and a nudge needed to widen my horizon”.
The session, which the corps members described as the first of its kind, is indeed the type that should happen more often and in a more grand style.
With the masterclass, Lasisi, who is also a published author, hopes to impact and give back to the youth, enabling them to upskill and have a robust knowledge of what the benefit of news writing has to offer.
