The National Executive Council (NEC) has threatened to impose sanctions on some states, including Adamawa, Sokoto, and Kwara, over delay in the submission of their reports on the proposed state police.
As recommended by state governors, President Bola Tinubu had earlier supported the creation of state police to combat the nation’s growing level of insecurity.
The NEC has now given the states until Monday to submit their reports, failing which they would be subject to the council’s ruling. The others are Adamawa, Kwara, Sokoto, Kebbi, and the Federal Capital.
The acting governor of Oyo State Bayo Lawal said that four states had not yet turned in their reports, following a Wednesday NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
