Celebrated artist and activist Angélique Kidjo has saluted afrobeats star, Davido, as one whose energy often enriches their collaborations.
She notes this as she releases her latest single and music video, “JOY,” featuring the Afrobeats sensation, Davido.
The collaboration between the multi-Grammy Award winner and 2023 Polar Music Prize recipient and Davido, who recently made history by selling out Madison Square Garden, marks their second musical partnership this year.
According to a statement by ‘Fancy Man’, “JOY” is a powerful anthem that radiates positivity and underscores the importance of resilience, with lyrics delivered in both Yoruba and English. The track is the latest chapter in Kidjo’s illustrious career, which has spanned more than four decades. “Working with Davido is always a delight. His energy and passion bring a special magic to our collaborations,” Kidjo said about their work together. The two previously collaborated on the song “NA MONEY” from Davido’s 2023 album Timeless and performed together at his sold-out O2 Arena show earlier this year.
This release follows Kidjo’s earlier single “Sunlight To My Soul,” featuring Diane Warren and the Soweto Gospel Choir, signaling a new phase in her dynamic career.
