The All Progressives Congress has performed what pundits may see as a political miracle as it has won the governorship election in Edo State.
Many critics had thought that people could vote against the party because of the unprecedented economic challenges the country is experiencing due to the reforms the Bola Tinubu administration is carrying out.
But the party seems to have proved that politics is primarily local and emotional as its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, floored his strongest opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night declared Okpebholo winner.
According to the Returning officer, Prof Farouq Adamu Kuta, the APC candidate scored a total of 291,667 as against 247, 655 votes won by the PDP candidate to emerge winner.
Not even the energy of Governor Godwin Obaseki could win the game for Ighodalo as the duo of Adams Oshiomhole and Phillip Shaibu, his friends-turned foes, led the battle for the APC and defeated him.
