Although actress Mercy Aigbe’s husband, Kazeem Adeoti, recently reunited with his first wife, Oluwafunsho, in the United States, the love between them (he and Aigbe) remains burning.
Many had gossiped when the video of Adeoti showering hard currency on the first wife at a party went viral.
Some even feared Aigbe might have been dumped.
But there is a strong indication that their relationship is still cute as they have exchanged tender words in which they renew their vows.
Very importantly, too, they tease each other by exchanging their pet oriki, the Yoruba praise name that most individuals are given during naming.
While Aigbe salutes Adeoti as Atanda, he reciprocates by hailing her as Agbeke: meaning the one meant to be caringly lifted up and pampered.
It is, however, not clear whether it is Adeoti who gave Aigbe the pet name, or if it has always been part of her nomenclature.
The doubt is predicated on the fact that only Yorubas have the oriki apele, whereas Aigbe is from Benin.
Online, a slice of her profile, for instance, reads: “Mercy Aigbe was born on 1 January 1978 in Edo State to Pa Aigbe and Mrs. Abisola Grace Owodunni. She hails from Benin city which is the capital of Edo State. She is the second child in a family of five. She had her primary education at St. Francis primary school and attended Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School Ikeja, Lagos State. She is also an alumnus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, where she received her OND in Financial Studies. In 2001, Mercy Aigbe graduated from University of Lagos with a degree in Theater Arts.”
Well, perhaps Edo people also have the oriki culture. After all, they are supposed to have some affinity with the Yoruba, although mixed theories of ancestry are also being raised.
Or is her ‘Agbeke’ as a result of her ageless stay in Lagos?
