ECOWAS to drive migrations – Elumelu

UBA Chairman, Tony Elumelu, has defended Nigerians migrating enmasse in what has been dubbed ‘Japa’.

Although he is an employer of labour and youths mentor, he says he totally supports the japa idea.

In an interview with ‘Financial Times’, Elumelu, who funds many African youths through his Tony Elumelu Foundation, notes: “I support it, totally. “I don’t have a problem with people saying ‘I’m going to Canada, UK or US.’

“Joblessness is the betrayal of a generation. You’ve gone to school and come back with your dreams and aspirations and you don’t have the opportunity . For people who decide to find solutions elsewhere, no one should stop them. But for those who decide to stay, they should try to create an impact and build a legacy.”

The japa syndrome has depleted many health, educational and general business outfits in Nigeria as hardship continues to worsen in the country over the years.
