Bayer Leverkusen have won the German Super Cup, making it their third title in 13 months.
The 10-man champions beat Stuttgart 4-3 on penalties in the season-opening German Super Cup on Saturday, winning the trophy for the first time.
Xabi Alonso delivered Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Super Cup in domestic treble as Bayer Leverkusen manager.
Leverkusen scored the opening goal when Victor Boniface tapped in Edmond Tapsoba’s goal-bound header from close range in the 11th minute of First half. But their evening became more difficult thereafter with Stuttgart impressing.
Stuttgart levelled when young French midfielder Enzo Millot swept the ball past Lukas Hradecky to equalise in the 15th minutes of the match. Leverkusen could hardly complain as Stuttgart hit the frame of the goal on three further occasions.
Leverkusen were then reduced to 10 men shortly before half-time when Martin Terrier saw red for a dangerous tackle.
Deniz Undav gave Stuttgart the lead in the 63rd minutes but the opponents’ Patrik Schick scored with two minutes remaining and sent the match to penalties.
Bayern Munich loanee Frans Kraetzig and Silas Mvumpa missed from the spot while Leverkusen converted all of their penalties.
