Like England that fought back from a goal deficit against Switzerland, the Netherlands, on Saturday, came from behind to defeat Turkey and set up a semi-final against England at Euro 2024.
At the 35th minute’s, Centre-back Samet Akaydin deservedly put Turkey in front when he headed in Arda Guler’s cross, proving an impressive first half display from the Turkey side.
The second half started with Netherlands pressing high and got a goal at the 70th minute and found an equaliser through Stefan de Vrij’s header, moments after Weghorst made a crucial interception inside his own box to stop Turkey’s Kaan Ayhan getting to a rebound.
At the 76th minute, an own goal from Mert Muldur, bundling the ball over his goalline under pressure from Cody Gakpo, gave Ronald Koeman’s side the win at the Euro 24.
The Netherlands will now face England in Dortmund on Wednesday after Gareth Southgate’s side beat Switzerland on penalties.
