As Kano residents join other Muslims the world over to celebrate Sallah, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi is currently holding durbar.
This is in spite of the ban placed on the durbar celebration by the police which seek to forestall disorder as the Emir contesting the throne with Sanusi, Aminu Ado Bayero, had also insisted on holding same.
Emir Sanusi must have been encouraged to stage the Durbar by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who expressed dissatisfaction with the police decision, faulting how the police arrived at such without consulting him as the Chief Security Officer of the State.’Daily Trust’ reports that the Emir had earlier led Eid prayer and sermon at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at mosque.
It added that the Eid prayer was observed at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at mosque due to heavy rain that flooded the premises of the Eid ground which could not be used.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other cabinet members observed prayer with the Emir.
The Army, Police, Civil defence and others provided security.
Emir Sanusi took the usual route back home and casually stopping along the way to receive greetings and homage from individuals and groups riding on a horse.
Meanwhile, during the prayer, the Emir urged Muslims to embrace the culture of helping the needy and preaching peace.
He emphasised the importance of following Prophet Muhammad’s teachings, which emphasised helping the needy, especially during Eid-al-Adha celebrations.
He also urged the public to intensify prayers for peaceful coexistence in Kano State and the nation.
