By historical reputation, Italy were supposed to be the giants in their game against Switzerland, which sent them packing from Euro 2024 on Saturday.
But based on the low quality of the team they took to the tournament, the encounter ended up not being a case of David versus Goliath.
The side who were supposed to be the weaker, dumped them out of the show.
No wonder, as Switzerland, however, thus savour their deserved 2-0 victory, Italy’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could only apologise to fans.
According to him, all his team could do was struggle throughout the game.
He said after the match: “It hurts, it really hurts,” he said .
“We can only say sorry to everyone, we were disappointing today and they deserved to win. We struggled all game long.”
