The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it has arrested two suspects in connection with car theft in Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Mr Benneth Igweh, said this during a media briefing on Monday in Abuja.

He said the suspects were trailed and arrested on May 1 by police operatives from Apo Legislative Quarters Division following credible intelligence.

Igweh said the suspects who have been on the wanted list of the command were part of a notorious car theft syndicates terrorising FCT and its environs.

“A Toyota Camry with special registration no. Lagos 23, Audi A4 with registration no. KRD 349 JD and Honda Accord Sports with registration no. BDG 42 JC were recovered from the suspects.

“The chassis of some of the recovered vehicles had been altered by the suspects,” he said.

Igweh said police operatives from Maitama Division on April 7, while on routine patrol arrested four suspects over “one chance” robbery.

He said the operatives on patrol along Nicon Junction area of Abuja heard a loud cry and swiftly mobilised to the location where a victim of “one chance”, pushed out of a vehicle was found.

Igweh said the victim was dispossessed of all her belongings and in response; the operative gave the hoodlums a hot chase forcing them to abandon their vehicle and took to their heels.

According to him, the information recovered from the vehicle led police operatives to the arrest of four suspects.

He said the suspects had freely confessed to the commission of the crime.

The CP said operatives from Lugbe Division, on April 15 arrested six suspects in connection with “one chance” robbery in Lugbe area of Abuja.

He said the suspects were arrested following a report by one Magaji Umar at Lugbe Division that on April 14, he boarded a vehicle from Lugbe going to Area 1.

Igweh said the complainant had told police operatives that he was suddenly attacked by the two occupants of the moving vehicle.

He said the victim was forcefully made to part with the sum of N2.2 million, removed from his account.

Igweh said subsequent investigation led police operatives to the arrest of six suspects and recovered the N2.2 million removed from the victim’s account.

He said a black coloured Toyota Corrola with registration no. GWA 227 BG, and a Golf 3 Salon car with registration no. KWL 200 CF were recovered from the suspects.

The CP said other items recovered from the suspects were two locally made cartridge rifles, one locally made pistols, one locally made rifle, ten live cartridges and six live ammunition

Igweh said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
