President Bola Tinubu has authorized the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme, which will involve young Nigerian fellows deployed to all 774 local government areas in the country.

This initiative, aimed at significantly enhancing primary healthcare infrastructure, entails upgrading existing centers and constructing over 8,800 new ones nationwide. The fellows, meticulously trained, will act as watchdogs to oversee the development and performance of Primary Healthcare Centers, ensuring accountability in the utilization of financial resources allocated to these facilities.

The program, housed within the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, will recruit and equip fellows with the necessary tools to effectively monitor Basic Health Care Provision Fund-supported health facilities.

President Tinubu’s confidence in the capability of young Nigerians underscores his commitment to nation-building, fostering a new era of top-notch healthcare services across the nation.
