The Enugu State Government says Sen. Ayogu Eze’s death was a great loss to the state, describing him as ‘an iconic personality, prominent politician and distinguished journalist’.
This is contained in a statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Aka Eze Aka, on Friday in Enugu.
He said the state government received with a great and rude shock the news of the death of Eze who once served as Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, in Enugu State.
He added that Eze represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly where he was the Senate Committee Chairman on Information and Media and also was the Senate Committee Chairman on Works.
Aka said Eze used the positions to effect employment for many graduates and positive changes in the Nigeria Media industry including influencing the location of a Radio Nigeria station and Voice FM in Nsukka.
“He worked as a journalist in some media houses in Nigeria namely Guardian Newspaper and the Newswatch Magazine and used his write ups to impact positively on the development, peace and progress of Nigeria.
“As his family, Enugu North Senatorial District and indeed the government and people of Enugu State mourn his demise.
“We pray for God’s consolation for all whose hearts are hurt by his death. For the bible says in Psalms 143:3. He heals the brokenhearted and binds their wounds.
“Senator Ayogu Eze will be forever remembered by his many good works and contributions to the well being of humanity,” he said.
The commissioner added that Eze who hailed from Umuiyda autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State was born on November 23, 1958.
Sen. Eze died on Thursday in an Abuja hospital after a brief illness at 66.
