Morenike Adeleke is a woman of many parts. She is a medical practitioner, a gospel singer and a cleric who describe herself as a prophetess.
One thing that will, however, strike whoever is encountering her for the first time is her beauty. People who are addicted to fair complexion will particularly have to look at her more than once. No wonder, her stage name is ‘Egbin Orun’, meaning, ‘Beauty of Heaven’.
This was how gospel artiste, Morenikeji Adeleke, aka Egbin Orun, was described in a media story in 2016.
It was precisely in THE PUNCH, in a story written by seasoned journalist and performance poet, Akeem Lasisi.
Today, however, Egbin Orun is no more and her departure has sparked grief among her colleagues and fans.
Her death was announced by her colleague, Esther Igbekele, in an Instagram post late Saturday.
Igbekele, who posted with the username @estherigbekele, expressed sadness over the demise of the late singer whom she described as a “beautiful and kind-hearted woman” who was supportive of her.
She recalled that she and EgbinOrun spoke last week, adding that she’ll be greatly missed.
“We spoke together last week not knowing you are about to embark on a journey to the great beyond. You are such a beautiful and kind-hearted woman and a very good supporter of my ministry.
“I am deeply saddened at your demise but God knows best. You will be greatly missed and your good deeds will continue to linger in our hearts.”
Igbekele added with teary emojis, “Ah Egbin Orun. Good night! Keep resting in the bosom of Christ. Ah Gone too soon. .Yeeee.”
In the 2016 interview, the late artiste had said concerning her goal as a musician: “My music is basically about salvation. It’s a music that is laced with prayer points on salvation. My line of music isn’t to entertain people. Rather, it is to preach the word of God and His salvation. That is why I want to inform those that engage in lewd music that they could still praise God with and make the world a beautiful place to dwell, with everybody having God in their hearts.”
