UN Women, CCDRN partner to commemorate 2024 International Women’s Day

 The Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) and United Nations Women have collaborated to commemorate 2024 international women’s day in Kano.

The Programme Analyst, Dr Olaniyi Aderibigbe, disclosed this during the livelihood projects exhibition on Thursday in Kano.

He said the programme would  enhance resilience recovery of vulnerable women and girls affected by conflict and climate change.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project has as its theme: “Resilience in the face of terror : celebrating women from the North East.”

Aderibigbe explained that the project was funded by Japan through the United Nations Women to support, mobilise and train women on food processing.

He added that it would also train the women on how best to convert agricultural material to valuable food product as source of income generation within their community.

According to him, the project focuses on climate agriculture component and 500 women have been trained on oil processing, turning oil to flakes, among others.

“In terms of climate change, 500 women farmers have benefitted in terms of animals husbandry, agriculture production and focus on women affairs in food processing, and agro products.

“These women were trained and provided with startup kit to enable them be self reliant.

“We want this project to go beyond exhibition and link them to the market,”he said.

The project analyst, said that United Nations Women have tried to improve livelihood of over 5,000 women in the North East.

One of the beneficiaries, Rabi’a Umar, said the project had assisted her to earn more money to sponsor her children’s education and also support in taking care of the family.
