Popular singer, Waje, has said that she’s not the type that loves being called an underrated artiste. According to the singer in a recent episode of the Secrets Behind the Scenes podcast, she deserves more recognition than she receives based on her contributions to the music industry.
With the argument, Waje may just be tasking analysts and writers on how to refer to her.
She is not as big as Tiwa Savage and she is not as acclaimed or reigning like Asake or ayra Starr. But those who believe she is offering more than has been acknowledged try to accord her honour and justice by calling her an underrated artiste.
Here is how Cambridge Dictionary defines the word: having more importance, value, skill, power, etc., than people recognize:
He is one of Hollywood’s most underrated actors (= He is much better than people think).
Yet, the Nigerian musician rejects the term. Perhaps she see it s being unnecessarily sympathetic.
Waje made her stand known in a Secrets Behind the Scenes podcast, noting that “underrated” is not a good compliment that many people believe it to be.
“I do not like being addressed as an underrated artiste. Words have power. Some people might celebrate it [being called underrated] and make it like, People see who I am and that’s why they said so. Your perception of success is between you and your mind.”
