As remains of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, are buried on Friday, all hands point towards Owolabi Olakulehin, an ex-serviceman, as the next to mount the throne.
This is in the spirit of ’emi lokan’ or ‘oun lokan’ royal tradition of Ibadanland which produces the king based on popular hierarchy.
Olakulehin has recently gained attention following the passing of Ọba Lekan Balogun, who hailed from the same Ibadan North East local government as him.
Owolabi Olakulehin originates from the Okugbaja family in the Ita Baale area.
Having served in the Nigerian Army, he holds the status of an ex-serviceman.
In the 3rd Republic, in 1992, he contested and emerged victorious in the Federal House of Representatives elections under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Additionally, he is a devout Christian.
Subject to the ratification of Governor Seyi Makinde, he will be crowned following the demise of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Thursday.
He is the next in line to the late Olubadan.
Confirming the death of the monarch, Makinde, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said Oba Balogun died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
He will be buried according to Islamic rights on Friday at 4 pm.
The next in line, Olakulehin, who heads the Balogun line, according to The Nation, hails from Ita Baale in Ibadan North East Local Government.
