The Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) on Tuesday inducted 376 graduates of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, into the teaching profession.
Prof. Solomon Makinde, Dean, Faculty of Education, LASU, gave the figure at the induction ceremony of the graduates of the faculty, in Lagos.
Makinde said that the institution had focused on provision of students with well-rounded curriculum, requisite digital experience and well organised intensive teaching practice exercise.
According to him, the institution is poised to provide the necessary teaching services to close the gaps in the teaching profession in the fifth largest economy in Africa.
”To further drive this objective, the faculty will seek the approval of the university to set in motion an Executive Pedagogy Programme for all non-registered lecturers.
”The purpose is to sharpen their skills, leading to the professionalisation and registration with the TRCN.
“Professionalism of teaching is a necessity in order to improve on the current standards of the building blocks of our nation”.
Makinde said that the need to restore, improve and maintain the enviable quality and status of teachers and teaching informed the establishment of TRCN Decree 31 of 1993, now TRCN CAP T3 of 2004.
”I urge the inductees to always uphold the values of professionalism and ethics.
“Remember that as educators, you play critical roles in shaping the minds and character of our future generations.
“Embrace this responsibility with integrity, compassion and dedication”, he said.
Meanwhile Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar, TRCN, who led the inductees through the oath taking, urged them to foster a culture of inclusivity and diversity within their classrooms.
Ajiboye, represented by Mr Abimbola Okunola, Director, Accreditation and Enforcement, TRCN noted that in today’s rapidly evolving world, the role of a teacher had become even more critical.
”You all need to adapt to the changing needs and demands of the 21st century learner.
”You need to embrace technology as a tool to enhance teaching and learning experiences but never overlook the importance of human connection and empathy in the classroom.
”Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn and grow, and to ensure excellence in your profession,
“I implore you to invest in continuous professional development, “he said.(
