The Director of the Road Traffic Department at Kano’s Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO), Mr. Hassan Garba, revealed that 408 vehicles were impounded for suspected traffic offenses from January to December 2023. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Garba highlighted various violations, including failure to update vehicle particulars, operating with expired driver’s licenses, and failure to meet roadworthy requirements.
Notably, two drivers faced court arraignment for using expired driver’s licenses among the 408 suspects. The impoundment activities resulted in the generation of N33.2 million, and during the same period, drivers from different driving schools in the state were certified.
Garba emphasized the importance of motorists adhering to road safety rules and regulations, urging compliance for the overall safety of all road users. Looking ahead to 2024, he outlined plans to intensify safety campaigns, focusing on company drivers, institutes, motor parks, and other relevant stakeholders.
