Many soccer-loving Nigerians have cause for more anxiety as the Super Eagles could only secure a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in their Sunday’s opening game at AFCON.
Many had feared Eagles were not in a great shape before the tournament started and their performance with Guinea did not prove the observers wrong.
Yet, such hoped they should be able to beat a ‘smaller’ Guinea and boosted their points bank before meeting a co-giant and hosts like Cote d’Ivoire.
This did not, however, materialise.
Victor Osimhen scored in the 38th minute to cancel out an Ivan Salvador goal two minutes earlier.
The result placed the Super Eagles in the group’s third position after one round of matches by all four teams.

In what can be described as one of their weaknesses, the Eagles demonstrated a lack of the power to retain ball and to pass accurately.
Indeed, as of the 69th minute through 72nd, Super Eagles were losing the ball as if it is a burning ember on their palms.
To further mess up the situation, Osimhen lost a one-on-one chance by the 75th minute.
