Sen. Lola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Leader of the 10th Senate, has assured his constituents improved security.
Ashiru (APC-Kwara South) said insecurity bedevilling the senatorial district would be addressed soonest for peace and progress to reign supreme in the area.
He gave the assurance on Thursday while fielding questions from journalists during a media parley in Offa.
According to him, he held a meeting with relevant stakeholders on Wednesday regarding insecurity as well as community members in a bid to reduce insecurity to the barest minimum in Kwara South.
The senator promised that in the next two to three months there would be a dynamism and new relationship between the community and organised security establishments.
He said the government should not allow insecurity to continue because tourism, farming, economic and social activities cannot thrive without security of lives and property.
“At the meeting, we tried to understand the architecture of insecurity and the pattern of its occurrence and those responsible for it.
“And we discovered that as much as the federal, state and local government were trying to curb it, so much needs to be done by the local people.
“They have a lot to do in solving this menace but they need to be empowered and assisted to do so,” Ashiru said.
He added that insecurity in the senatorial district was a causation of the hard economy, migration, issue of herdsmen and loss of opportunities by the local people.
The lawmaker, however, said that the above could not be accepted as an excuse for maiming, killing and unsocial behaviour of the people.
“While the local community must work hard to reduce it, economic empowerment will go side by side.
“It won’t be a sudden and quick action because we don’t want it to be a one off thing, it has to be continuous,” Ashiru said.
