The Ogun State Police Command apprehended three officers, Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, Inspector John Ogbe, and Corporal Idowu Sunday, along with a civilian driver, Adesiyan Mathew, from the Ijebu-Ife division, for their involvement in an alleged armed robbery in the Ijebu Ode area. Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu paraded the suspects, along with 26 others facing various criminal charges, at the Eleweran headquarters in Abeokuta.

The incident was reported on January 12, 2024, by Kashimao Emmanuel, who stated that individuals posing as police officers demanded his phone while driving his Toyota Venza. After complying due to threats, they took him away, transferred funds from his account to an Opay account, and released him in Ijebu-Ode. The DPO’s intervention in tracing the Opay account led to the arrest of Corporal Idowu Sunday in Ibadan garage, followed by the arrest of his accomplices.

Recovered items include firearms, such as a Type 06 rifle and an AK47 rifle, along with ammunition and a Toyota Camry car. Commissioner Alamutu revealed that two additional complainants identified the suspects for previous similar robberies. The three officers have undergone internal disciplinary proceedings and will soon face charges in court.
