The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has assured aspirants that the Edo governorship primary election will be conducted with transparency and fairness. Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, who chairs the screening committee for the primaries, conveyed this commitment during an address to PDP aspirants at the National Headquarters, Wadata House in Abuja.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by aspirants for a level playing field, Mutfwang pledged to advocate strongly for a transparent and fair process, drawing from his own positive experience as a beneficiary of such a process. He emphasized the goal of fostering unity within the party, stating, “We will ensure that when all is said and done, we will still work together as one big family.”

Edo Deputy Governor, Mr. Philip Shaibu, speaking on behalf of the aspirants, promised to adhere to the rules. Another aspirant, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, stressed the significance of winning the Edo governorship election for the PDP. He urged all aspirants to support the eventual party candidate as long as the process remains free, fair, and transparent.

Highlighting the need for a reward system within the party, Onaiwu emphasized the contributions of loyal members and called for a focus on building the party through faithful members rather than relying on external figures. He urged against allowing individuals who view the PDP as a mere vehicle to achieve personal goals to control the party, emphasizing the importance of empowering dedicated party members to take on leadership roles at various levels.
