Communities of Tunburku village in Kidandan ward of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State have staged a peaceful protest against banditry and security challenges bedeviling the area.
The protesters, numbering thousands, consisted of the young and elderly who walked to the Zazzau Emirate Palace in Zaria.
Malam Yusuf Jibrin, who spoke on behalf of the community in an emotional laden voice before bursting into tears, narrated how bandits are harassing the community.
He said banditry has grounded agriculture and other economic activities in the area, and further jeopardised peace and security of the entire community.
Malam Amiru Abubakar, another resident, narrated to the royal father how bandits kill and abduct members of the area, adding that in some instances where they allowed farming the farmers had to pay levy.
He explained that the bandits also abuse (rape) their women and daughters in their presence.
“They also steal our animals and treat us like slaves,” cried Abubakar.
According to him, many households in the village don’t have food to eat, hence the appeal for the royal quick intervention.
Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, while commiserating with the community, said he had been receiving such report from the area.
“Infact, the security situation in Giwa Local Government Area always gives us sleepless nights,” Bamalli said.
The emir who abandoned a meeting to attain to the people, promised to forward the matter to the relevant authorities for necessary action.
