The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State has implored the 1,630 corps members deployed to the state to dedicate themselves with renewed commitment to the progress of Nigeria.
Hajiya Aisha Muhammed, the NYSC Coordinator in the state made the call on Thursday at the closing ceremony for the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream ‘ll’ orientation course in Katsina.
She called on them to always conduct themselves as agents of change, symbol of national unity and integration.
Muhammed said, “I once again implore you to dedicate yourselves with renewed vigor, conviction and commitment to the progress of the nation.”
She admonished them to be responsible, disciplined citizens, shun cultism, political violence, religious intolerance and be guided by the motto of the scheme.
Muhammed added, “You should build bridges across your origins, religious and ethnic background by living peacefully with members of your host communities.
“This will bring about the overall socioeconomic development of our national life,” the Coordinator told the corps members.
“Perfect security can only come from Almighty God, and as such, wherever you may eventually find yourselves, be security conscious and report any suspicious movement around you to the security agencies.”
She enjoined the corps members to strictly adhere to the security tips contained in the pamphlets packaged for them during the orientation course.
Muhammed also advised them not to forget to practice what they have learned during the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) in-camp training.
“As corps members, NYSC has deemed it fit to train you in camp on various skills. For the post-camp training, there are training centres in the state, and I urge you to explore these opportunities”
“It’s important for you to know that as a matter of policy, the NYSC posts 75 per cent of the corps members to rural areas, where a large number of Nigerians live, and your services are most needed there”
“I therefore appeal to you to accept your posting in good faith and make concerted efforts to bring a new lease of life to your host communities.
“I appeal to the corps employers not to reject members posted to them, but rather give them a sense of belonging and report erring members to us for appropriate sanctions,” she said.
