The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, says Nigeria has lost a titan with the death of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
Alake made this known in a statement by his Special Assistant (Media) Mr Segun Tomori in Lagos on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Akeredolu, popularly known as ‘Aketi’ a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who has been battling a serious ailment died on Wednesday.
The 67 year-old two-term governor died in Germany on Tuesday night, where he was hospitalised.
Reacting, Alake, said the country was, however, consoled by the fact that Akeredolu left an indelible mark in the political firmament.
He, thereafter, described the late Akeredolu as an irrepressible fighter and courageous defender of the people.
Alake stated that Ondo state had lost a gem and a quintessential progressive who was always at the forefront of defending his people and fighting for the emancipation of the downtrodden.
He said: “I am deeply shocked by the loss of a brother and friend and indeed one of the leaders of the progressive movement, late governor Rotimi Akeredolu.”
“Akeredolu carved a niche for himself as a bold and irrepressible defender of the interests of Ondo people and the Yoruba nation.
“His voice resonated across the country as a lodestar in the struggle for the entrenchment of true federalism. As state governor, he made the welfare of the people the focal point of governance.”
The minister commiserated with President Bola Tinubu and the good people of the state on the irreparable loss.
He pray to the Almighty Allah that Aketi’s soul rest in the bossom of the Lord.
