Veteran musician and evangelist, Chief Ebenezer Obey, has recalled the time he calls his struggling days.
He says things used to be so hard for him that he sold ice cream and worked as a labourer.
He, however, put everything into growing his musical talent, according to him.
In an interview with ‘Saturday Punch’, he says, “I must also share this experience. In my struggling days, I worked very hard as a labourer and newspaper vendor and was also involved in selling ice cream just to obey my mother, but my mind was on music. Music was all I wanted to do in life and thank God I finally settled down for music, I became a celebrity musician and everything my mother wanted me to achieve as a lawyer or a doctor is fully accomplished through music even more than my mother’s expectations! My advice to all parents is to allow their children to follow their hearts’ desires. For example, I watched a programme on the TV, the story of a lady. Her father wanted her to study Law, but her interest was not in it. She obeyed her father and studied Law; she graduated and took the certificate home to her father and stated, ‘Thank you, dad. This is for you. I am going back to my fashion designing, which I have had a passion for’. Today, she is doing well.”
