A Nigerian scholar, Eyoh Etim, has emerged winner of the Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism.
He was announced winner on Friday night at an award programme organised by the founder of the prize, Nigeria LNG.
According to Professor Olu Obafemi, a member of the awards committee, Etim’s entry encompassed three articles published within the stipulated time.
His arguments are well laid while his analysis is detailed.
The winner said a critic had an important role to play in the growth of literature.
His job is not to condemn but to make people understand the work better, he believes.
He thanked all the teachers who made his academic career a success.
