Cynthia Maduekwe, Miss Catholic Youths of Nigeria (CYON) 2023, Saints Joachim and Anne Catholic Church, Ijegun. Lagos State, has advised the youth to avoid get-rich-quick syndrome and work decently and patiently to make a living.
Maduekwe, a second year student of Guidance and Counselling at St. Augustine College of Education, Akoka, Lagos State, gave the advice on Tuesday.
The beauty queen spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Maduekwe, also a model and fashion designer, said that youths should not engage in ‘dirty deals’ in desperation to get money.
She added that youths should be agents of positive change and avoid negative influences.
The beauty queen also advised the youth to engage in healthy interactions and shun acts that could push them into depression“My vision is to have youths who have contentment; people who are ready to work hard for a living, people who are ready to make impacts and to be impacted.
“If there is one thing I am grateful for, it is that my mum taught me to be satisfied with the little I have
“Life is in stages and phases, and the truth is that many youths these days are not ready to pass through those stages
” The way forward is for youths to learn to be satisfied with their little, and work hard to achieve more,” she said
She advised young women to showcase their talents instead of their bodies
” It is really sad that people are no longer seen for their talents but what they can offer with their bodies,” she said
She also called on the youth to promote decency and African culture through their dressings and other lifestyles
According to her, decency in dressing would reduce cases os sexual harassment.
