Afghanistan’s state-run News Agency, Bakhtar, has started providing news content in the German language, officials announced on Tuesday.

“In order to develop its programmes and provide timely information, Bakhtar News Agency has started its programmes in the German language,’’ Director, Ziaulhaq Haqmal wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In its first German feature on X, Bakhtar reported on Afghanistan as a tourist destination and an “increase in tourist visits from both nationals and foreigners.’’

Since the Taliban’s return to power, the state-run news agency, which was previously rather an ineffective organisation has started broadcasting in different foreign languages.

Currently, in addition to the country’s national languages, the agency operates in eight foreign languages.
