The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in Adamawa, has trained 60 unemployed graduates on environmental beautification, among other skills, under its Special Public Works Department (SPWD).
Speaking during the orientation ceremony in Yola on Monday, NDE’s Director-General, Malam Abubakar Fikpo, charged the beneficiaries to understand that white collar jobs are no longer available, hence the need for them to take advantage of the training.
Fikpo, represented by Malam Mohammed Jimada, NDE’s Adamawa Coordinator, said the Federal Government introduced the scheme aimed to addressing unemployment in the country.
He advised the beneficiaries to take the training seriously within the three-month timeframe of the exercise for them to acquire the skills and be self employed as well as employers of labor.
Fikpo said “Skills are the main thing today, without skills our certificates will no longer be relevant like before, that is why learning skills is important to be self sustaining and job creators.”
Sakina Muhammad, Head of Department (HOD) SPWD, said that the participants would be trained on interlocking, Plaster of Paris (POP) making and landscaping.
She warned beneficiaries against disobedience to Master trainers.
Muhammad advised them to actively participate in their places of primary assignment regularly to enable them succeed.
Malam Suleiman Yaro, who spoke on behalf of the master trainers, advised the beneficiaries to be patient and go through the process of the training.
“For anything to be successful, there most be due process, hence the need for you to be attending the training on time for you to be successful instead of striving to get rich quick,” he said.
Abdullahi Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked and appreciated the NDE for giving them the opportunity which many people lack.
He promised that they would take advantage of the training to learn and to step down the knowledge to other people in their respective communities
