The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Zamfara Command, Mr Sani Mustapha, on Thursday called for a peaceful coexistence among citizens for the development of the state.
Mustapha made the call in Gusau at a One-day Peace Talk with stakeholders, organised by the state command in commemoration of the 2023 International World Peace Day.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the Day is “Action for Peace: Our Ambition for the Global Goals”.
The event, chaired by the Chief of Staff Government House Gusau, Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga, was attended by heads of security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), youths and women groups, and the media.
The commandant said the event aimed to interact with stakeholders on how to promote peace building in the state.
“This is one of the major contributions of the NSCDC to complement the efforts of government and other sister security agencies in fighting against insecurity,” he explained.
He noted that a meaningful development could not be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere.
“Therefore, all stakeholders must work together to ensure peaceful coexistence in the society.
“Everyone must be a peace builder, we have to embrace one another in a peaceful manner,” he added.
In a paper presentation, Prof. Lawal Mayanchi of the Federal University Gusau, called for collaborative efforts in the fight against insecurity.
Mayanci noted that stakeholders at community level should collaborate and support security agencies to succeed in fight against banditry.
He called on NSCDC to promote capacity building of its personnel in the state for their efforts towards the fight against banditry and terrorism.
Also, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, described the event as a welcome development.
The traditional ruler noted that only justice would guarantee peace and stability in the society.
“Justice is necessary for the maintenance of peace and stability; we should embrace culture of peace loving, justice and fairness.
“Security stakeholders should be organising diologue and peace talk towards providing lasting solutions to the lingering security challenges facing the state,” the Emir added
