Tiwa Savage

Music producer and promoter Tee Billz – Tunji Balogun – decided to reason smartly on the place of Tiwa Savage in the Nigerian music scene. According to him, she liberated the scene for other Nigerian female artistes.

He would mean the likes of Alade, Simi, Tems, Ayra Starr etc. Hmmm.

Of course, Billz, who was married to Tiwa, never failed to identify himself too as the pillar based on the role he played in bringing the supposed GOAT to limelight.

You could read some pomposity in his argument, yet there is a sense in it. Usually, it takes a creative to indirectly pave the way for others from her constituency or genre or ideological bend. Once she succeeds and breaks into limelight, the scene will yearn for more of his or her creed.

Perhaps Goldie could have done that before Tiwa, if death had not cut her short.

More importantly, pundits recall how Dagrin’s artistic effrontery projected the joker for an Olamide, in the realm of Yoruba rap.

Internationally, the likes of Fela, King Sunny Ade and Ayinde Barrister had also created the paths that many have followed. In other words, every era breeds its own GOAT.

In a tweet he too soon deleted, Billz said no female artiste would have a chance without Tiwa and his efforts.

He boasted: “Without her, without me, no female artiste will stand the chance…

Let’s start the debate!

She’s still the GOAT regardless.”
