More anxiety is sweeping across the country as the price of petrol has increased to about N617 per litre.
To confirm the people’s worst fear, fuel stations operated by NNPC have adjusted their fuel price from N539 to N617 per litre.
Already, the increment to N500 per litre, due to subsidy removal, had inflicted pain and compounded inflation.
Not everyone is able to fuel their vehicles just as fare has also skyrocketed.
President Tinubu has been introducing palliatives but these have yet to come into effect, just as controversy is greeting some of them – like the proposal to pay 12 million families N8,000 monthly for six weeks.
Among the questions being asked on the N500bn package border on the value of N8,000; the limited volume of the 12 million based on the depth of poverty in the land and what happens after the said six months.
The reason for the new increment is yet unknown but there have been speculations that the price of petrol will hit N700 per litre soon.
The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NDMPRA) is yet to comment on this development.
