Davido’s new video, JAYE LO, has stirred up another religious controversy in the country.
Many, especially Muslims, consider it offensive as it showcases those dressed and praying islamically, while also exhibiting a mosque in the setting.
Whatever message he may want to pass in the video, many wonder why it has to be set in the mosque ambience.
As if adding insult to injury, Davido also released the clip on Friday – Jomo Oloyin of all days.
The question this provokes is: Did he court impunity to gain vibes? Or did he mean to just be offensive? Or is it a matter of indiscretion not only on his part but the entirety of his team?
It’s good that he has bowed to pressure by bringing down the clip, but it will be interesting to see what eventually happens when he releases the full video.
Fortunately and unfortunately, many will now be eager to see it, suggesting that he has reaped more fortunes from the artistic sleaze.
Incidentally, JAYE LO came at a time religious issues have been causing tongues to wag, especially in the South-West – and the North-Central of Ilorin.
In the latter Muslims have risen against traditional worshippers who want to stage a feast and other related things in Ilorin.
Earler, gospel singer, Tope Alabi, unsettled dust when she sang ABORU BOYE, which traditionalists say is their personal legacy.
Perhaps it is this kind of temperament that Davido chose to play upon when he decided to JAYE LO in an unwanted space.
Still good for him, he is also now being commended for bringing the video down.
Reacting to the development for example, former President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmad, hailed the singer for removing the video.
He wrote on Twitter, “It is good to discover that Davido deleted that offensive and hurtful video. Hopefully, the entire scene will also be deleted from the actual footage before releasing it to the market, and we humbly urge that the same grave mistake should never happen again from him or anyone else.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country. It is always amazing when we celebrate the beauty of living in unity and harmony while embracing our differences.”
