In a way that proves that there is something in a name, Victory Gbakara has emerged winner of the 2023 edition of the Nigerian Idol.
With the victory, he is going home with prizes valued at N100m, comprising N35m, a car and other goodies such as a brand new SUV, one year supply of Bigi drinks, a week gat-away holiday to Cape Town and one year supply of WAW detergent.
A student of the Benson Idahosa University, where he is studying Law, Victory Gbakara hails from Warri in Delta State Nigeria and has been singing since he was nine.
He is 25 years old.
The winner, which was decided by the 165 million people who voted, with star artistes such as D’Banj and Simi being among the judges, was announced on Sunday evening.
He defeated Precious Mac, who however joined him in a final performance.
This was announced by Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa, popularly known as IK, the host of the show, during the grand finale held in Lagos on Sunday.
Performances on the live show were judged by the viewers who hold the power to retain and evict contestants through their votes.
After five weeks of audition and theatre week performances, 10 contestants were adjudged best performers by the trio of Obi Asika, D’banj and Simi.
The season 8 Top 10 contestants were: Savvy Henry; Constance; Goodness; Abraham; Quest; Precious Mac, Victory; Reigny; Ose Daniel, and Chisom.
The competition was sponsored by by Tekno and Biggi.
