Like play, like play by Akeem Lasisi

Like play, like play
Little, little drops of angels’ tears
Fill a labyrinth and turn a Nile

Like play, like play
The egg becomes the husband of the hen,
A punctual trumpet in its vibrant mouth.

Like play, like play
The yester larva condemned to the whims of murderous lizards,
I grow into a pupa and peep at the stars
I blossom into a rounded moth with rainbow’s wings.

And now like play, like play
Like play, like play
I seed into a spouse
And bloom into a bride

This eve of my flight,
I think in tongues and speak in rhymes
This eve of my crossover,
1 am a longer pageant of eternal poems.

(From Night of my Flight: The Poetry of a Lady about to Wed)
