Two unemployed men, Ibrahim Usman and Ishaku Rabiu, on Thursday appeared before a Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, charged with the theft of a mobile phone and N56, 387 cash.
Usman, 26, and Rabiu, 24, both of Mabushi Village, Abuja, are being prosecuted on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The prosecutor, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the court that on April 20 at 9:30 p.m., Mustapha Doka of Mabushi Village, Abuja, reported a case of theft at the Mabushi Police Station.
Nwafoaku informed the court that at 6:00 p.m, the defendants, both friends of the complainant, conspired and stole Doka’s mobile phone worth N35, 000 and withdrew N56, 387 from his bank account.
He alleged that the defendants withdrew all the money left in the complainant’s GTBank account no: 0660160879, without his consent.
Nwafoaku said that the offences contravened Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code Law.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Judge, Muhammed Wakili admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200, 000 and one surety each in like sum.
Wakili ordered that the sureties must provide a BVN printout, recent passport photograph and a valid identification card, which must be verified by the court registrar.
The Judge adjourned the matter until May 25, for hearing.
