Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday’s election, Abubakar Atiku, has said that his Labour Party’s counterpart, Peter Obi, was too much in a hurry in the controversial dispensation.
According to him, Obi was very likely to have emerged his running mate if the LP’s candidate was not hasty in his calculations.
Atiku was responding to a question during his media chat that held in Abuja on Thursday, where he rejected the emergence of the All Progressives Congress’ Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President-elect.
He was asked if he could still work with Obi in their battles to upturn the election result.
He said, “When the campaign started and we held a meeting (and Obi was still in the PDP), the PDP governors said they must produce the President. They must produce the Vice, the Chief of Staff etc. Peter Obi got up and left. But I stood ground. If he had waited, perhaps he would have emerged the running mate. But Peter got scared and left.”
He added that it was true that Obi took PDP’s votes in the South-East but stressed that such would never alone grant Obi the Presidency.
He said anyone who would win needed to get votes in all parts of the country.
