IN SEARCH OF YOUR SMILES
– Akeem Lasisi
Grant me an ample stage
To tell the world about your grace
Free my simile, unbound my pun
To mirror the penalty shots in your samba’s eyes.
In broad daylight let me salute
The carver of your teeth,
Whose whiteness panic egrets in their envious nests.
I crave for a leave
To hawk your flavour on tray of songs,
Colour the hall of a festival night
In the vast blackness
Of your lioness’s manes.
I want to hail your chest hosting the twins of life,
Firm ridges that shall nurture a world unborn.
And when night finally falls –
Stars peeping, rainbow giggling
The moon eavesdropping on the banter of the Bering
Shall I retire to your floral feet,
Babble their beauty till fall of night
Till you spray on the crooning lark
The hard currency of your uncommon smiles.
